Artifact Donations
Bonanzaville has an estimated collection of over 400,000 objects that help tell the history of Cass County and North Dakota. To help facilitate the frequent donations, all new artifacts must first go through our collections committee. We would love to take all donations, but unfortunately there is not enough space to display all items properly.
Artifact Donation (loan) Procedure
- Potential donor fills out a Potential Aquisition Questionnaire (PDF) and returns it to Bonanzaville
- A curator might follow up with questions or arrange a visit to gain more information about the possible donation.
- When all the information is gathered, the donation is voted on by the Collection Committee members.
- You will be contacted by letter or phone of the committee’s decision.
- If the donation is accepted, the curator will arrange for transportation of the item and a Deed of Gift will be signed by the donor to transfer title of the item.
All artifacts, even if appropriate to the purposes of the museum, may not be desirable acquisitions because of their unique relationship to, or duplication of existing collections, the museum’s capability to preserve the object, and cost and space considerations.
Artifacts which are acquired by the Cass County Historical Society should meet the following requirements:
- Acquisitions must reflect the purpose of the Cass County Historical Society. (Our mission is to collect, interpret and display artifacts relevant to the history and cultural heritage of Cass County and the Red River Valley.)
- The Cass County Historical Society must possess the capability to properly manage and preserve the acquisition.
- Artifacts are considered high-priority acquisitions if:
1. They were made and/or used in Cass County or the Red River Valley of the North, or fill a specific need not presently represented in the collection.
2. They represent an individual and/or activity of exceptional importance to Cass County or the Red River Valley of the North.
Call Andrew Nielsen, the museum's curator, for more information on donating artifacts. (701) 282-2822
